My body's begging "go to sleep" but I'm wired and awake
Dreams are kicking me all night long, it's more than I can take
I'm talking on the telephone but I don't know what I've said
Who I called or even why, or when the line went dead
I missed my train, I'm late for work, I forgot to wear my pants
My house is full of dirty dishes and dried out dying plants
I'm standing here in the pouring rain, plenty of things to do
They're all neglected, thrown aside, because I just wanna think of you

But purgatory has me trapped in a 9 to 5 ratrace
Sometimes I want to run away, seek forbidden thrills
Then purgatory grabs ahold and I remember unpaid bills
There's ozone holes and terrorists, a new crisis every night
But everything just fades to grey in this purgatory light
I want to feel, I want to care, I fight not to succumb
But purgatory's in my bones and I'm permanently numb
